Diving In The Gulf Of Thailand
Up until recently diving in the Gulf has been isolated mainly around Koh Tao with all the resorts of Samui and Phanghan sending their divers here too, they still do, and always will, as there is no noteworthy diving near either island. So what has changed, I hear you ask?
The introduction of technical diving by MV Trident and the subsequent discovery of dozens of virgin ship wrecks has opened up the whole Gulf, East and South to the more adventurous and more experienced.
So, our little island paradise, previously known only as a beginners domain, certifying up to 5% of all the world's divers every year, has suddenly leapt onto the map as the world's best location for technical wreck diving. As well as offering some of the world's best introductory diving and instructor training courses, Koh Tao now offers specialist professional level courses, like underwater videography internships and underwater photography courses.
Koh Tao really has something to offer every diver these days, with whale shark sightings becoming more frequent, the calm shallow reefs recovering after Hurricane Gay of 1989 and El Ninio in 1997, and deep unexplored World War II ship wrecks waiting to tempt your imagination and test your skills!
There are dozens of dive operators on Koh Tao and the level of diving instruction and safety is very high. But how should you choose your resort? The best way is to come here without making any bookings, avoid the internet blags and all the sales pitches, spend a few days and nights on the island getting to know the place and you will meet locals and tourists who can guide you with their first hand experience.
There are good experiences and great experiences to be had here on Turtle Island. ACE Marine Images operates with all the leading dive centers and resorts in the area and we will be glad to help you choose the right dive shop for you, free of charge!
